Eames DKR-2 Wire Chair

The Eames Wire Chair was designed in 1951 and is comprised of a network of welded steel strands curved to create a highly technical and transparent appearance. The complex design does not only evoke a sense of lightness, but the constructed curves create a shape designed for comfort. Charles and Ray Eames designed this classic piece using the influence of basket weaves and bridge cables to echo the appearance of a three dimensional drawing. The base of the chair is also made from steel strands continuing the stylish and light design. The DKR-2 version of the Wire chair, also known as Bikini, includes a seat and back pad upholstered in Hopsak fabric or leather.
