Ferreira de Sá
Ferreira de Sá was established in 1946 in Portugal as a luxury rug manufacturer known for their commitment to quality and traditional craftsmanship. They are recognised not only for their exceptional products but also for their commitment to sustainability and ethical practices to minimise their environmental impact. Today, some of Ferreira de Sá’s most striking rugs are made from sustainable materials, including Regenerated Nylon and Botanical silk.
Regenerated nylon, also known as Econyl®, is a type of synthetic fibre made from recycled nylon waste, such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastic. By using regenerated nylon in their rugs, Ferreira de Sá contributes to reducing plastic waste and promotes a more circular and sustainable approach to manufacturing.
The Botanical Silk used in Ferreira de Sa’s rugs is derived from a vegetable yarn produced from wood pulp that is carefully collected from consciously managed forests. The fibres are certified with the internationally recognised EU Ecolabel, an environmental quality label only awarded to products and services which have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle.
